4th Annual ALS Charity Race October 23rd, 2010 Just what is ALS? Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a motor neuron disease, first described in 1869 by the noted French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot. Although the cause of ALS is not completely understood, the last decade has brought a wealth of new scientific understanding about the disease that provides hope for the future. Lou Gehrig first brought national and international attention to the disease in 1939 when he abruptly retired from baseball after being diagnosed with ALS. Most commonly, the disease strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, and as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time. More significant advances of research into ALS has occurred in the last decade than all of the time since Charcot identified the disease. Advances in technology and the genetic revolution are aiding researchers in unlocking the ALS mystery. As more scientists focus on this perplexing disease, the outlook for new understanding brightens each day. Come and be a part making a difference in the lives of those living with ALS. Categories and Format: Mini-Z Stock (70T motor - HANDOUTS PENDING, 2.4Ghz and FETs allowed) Mini-Z OPEN (ANYTHING goes, incl Pan and AWD cars, but no LiPos, if you can drive it, good luck!) Mini-Z F1 (ANYTHING goes - HANDOUTS PENDING, but no LiPos, 2.4GHz, 3010 PCB, etc) Mini-Z dNano (EXHIBITION ONLY - $10 entry fee and limited to the first 15 cars) 1/18^th STOCK (5 cells, 180 motor, HPI, Xray or Orion motors only - HANDOUTS PENDING) No LiPo batteries allowed Rubber and foam tires allowed (NO TRACTION COMPOUND). Track Open for practice – Friday Night 5pm to 9pm Track Opens at 8am – Registration Closes at 9am – First Race at 10am 3 heats (5 mins) and Mains (8 mins) Trophies awarded to top three in each category (excluding dNano Exhibition) Race Organizers reserve the right to combine or eliminate categories or reduce qualification to 2 heats if time prohibits 3 heats. Location/Facility: Race location is at Ark and Dove Church (8424 Piney Orchard Pkwy, Odenton, MD 21113) We will be using RCP Tracks (the gold standard) and will try to post a picture of the layout on October 9th. CoreSpeedway Lap counting system will run the show so bring your old cards as backup. Tables, chairs, electrical outlets, restrooms and compressed air will be available to all drivers. On-site food (WHAT A DEAL!!) Two Raffles: Drivers Only (RC related) and Open to All (Two levels - Regular and Premium Items) Entry Fee/Registration: $40 for first car; $20 for second car, dNanos are $10 Pre-registered drivers garaunteed one extra raffle entry (drivers items) Pre-registrations must be recieved by October 9th With our usual list of insane prizes every extra ticket will help. Tickets will also be on sale at event. Due to time constraints we are limiting the event to the first 65 cars, so pre-registration is critical.
