"Thank goodness we are only running this one week." Exclaimed a weary driver.
The grids lined up and ran fairly clean; clean compared to NASCAR that is! It was a nightmare with cars leaving the track, cars rolling ever other lap and one driver even using the front end of a spun out Enzo for a ramp!
In XMODs Frank Adams had a strong start but succumbed to the relentless pursuit of Grenier’s Ford half way through. Dimeler stayed on lap but the midway point triggered a pace increase that she could not match. “I have been on a roll, but I am not unbeatable.” Admitted Adams.
The Mini-Z Stock race was a little ugly. With one of the largest fields everyone was nervous given the speed at this oval. “There will be some pain.” Said Schaub. With strong performances by Bill Perry (GS Corvette) and Bill Lucas (Lamborghini), the field had a tremendous pace led by Thompson and Schaub. Thompson took the lead about a third into the race and never looked back. Schaub weaved through traffic and started gaining back ground but the checkered flag fell too soon for the Ford driver to get back on lap and contend the lead with Thompson. Dresser pulled up the rear and cannot find any luck with traction. “I don’t give up, but I am hurting. Barnes supplied me with some super sticky tires to help cure my over-steer, but it still isn’t quite right.”
The Mod class was all about consistency and throttle control. The Porsche of Barnes was running during practice at quantum speeds, but the oval tracks are brutal on car parts. “I couldn’t keep the car balanced and at the end I completely blew a front tire. Aland and Russ had a good pace but I know I could have beaten them both had I not experienced the issues at speed in turn 1.” Said Barnes. Santamarina had the race buttoned up and quickly put a lap on Hester before settling into his groove. “I made some mistakes and Russ was coming back. If it were a longer race I am sure we would have been neck and neck, but it wasn’t and with Reggie’s problems we (Russ and I) are both back in the hunt.
