![]() 11/17/2006 In an incredible day of qualifying Hester beats arch rival Santamarina by 2 seconds on the final lap. Not to be outdone, the Rookie pole was decided by 4 seconds with Arndt inching the up-and-comer Tom Dresser in the last race of the day.
The Rookie mains were lack-luster with the Ford Mustang of Grenier getting bumped up to join her teammate Dimeler on the A Main grid. When the green flag dropped it was Dresser who took to an early lead by avoiding the bottle neck in the first turn. That wasn't about to deter the points leader Michael Arndt from chasing him down and passing him 3 laps into the race and he never looked back. Dresser, Grenier and Dimeler were all running well but they couldn't match the speed and robotic driving of Arndt. Paolini could have done better but had to start in the pits due to a time penalty. "Overall I am happy with my performance. I lost a tire in the A Main which put me down but my B Main speed showed my team that I can win a race." Said Grenier.
The Pros finally gave the crowd a race to watch. With Yutaka in the B Main, many resigned themselves to race for second and simply watched the leader lay down 28 laps while setting a new track record of 8.32 seconds!! "This is our home ground, so we have the cars for this track." Said Hester. He failed to mention that earlier in the week "their" track consumed the front suspensions of his car and Yutaka's as they pushed the cars to their limits.
The B Main was predictable with Romack, Morrison, and Lucas all battling it out. The race didn't start well for Romack when his launch control malfunctioned and gave him a false start landing him in the pits for a stop and go penalty that cost him the race. The A Main was all that it was supposed to be. In an unfortunate turn of events the McLaren launch control on Stephenson's car malfunctioned and sent him into the back of pole sitter and teammate Russ Hester. "It wasn't until the third or fourth lap that he realized his rear suspension was broken." Commented Yutaka on his teammate's last place performance. "We were expecting better." He continued. With Hester out of the picture and Yutaka and Stephenson's waged in their own back and forth, the cars of Santamarina and Reggie Barnes were left to race for the lead. Racing in a borrowed car Barnes was keeping Santamarina honest but couldn't take him. "I knew something was wrong with Russ' car but I wasn't about to get distracted to let Barnes by. It as a solid race and a well earned win." Said Santamarina. Everyone walked away from the first week at Blenheim a tad disappointed with Yutaka, Stephenson, Hester, Barnes and Dresser all vowing to win one at this prestigious track. Race Director's Notes: On a lighter note ERIN GRENIER won today's prize - A $30 gift certificate from TowerHobbies to feed the habit.. Everyone: Please understand that we run the B Mains first for both categories then the A Mains. Even if you think you are running late bring your car assuming that you will race. This is the last and only warning, due to time constraints we will have to start without you next week. Because of the holiday there will be no racing next Friday. The track will be available for practice. |
