Single Driver Qualifying is Confirmed.

Due to the super high speeds experienced at the legendary Wintergreen Speedway race facility, the race organizers have decided that qualifying will be single car on the track for 1 minute.  This format should improve safety and reduce expensive collisions.  Note, it is not fastest single lap, but rather how far you can travel in 1 minute.

The track will be open for qualifying on Wednesday and Thursday starting at 12:30 pm.

Unlike the 2004 season this year's race at Wintergreen is actually on the smaller practice track at the facility.  The larger facility is under renovation again getting resurfaced so the shorter and quicker track is in play.  This hurts McLaren since their power was ideal for the larger oval, but they will still be a force to reckon with on the smaller layout.

As expected the track consumed suspension parts.  All the McLaren's suffered breakage with Hester finding the wall in the A Main and placing last.  The Ferrari's were not immune with Santamarina breaking a wheel during practice and Morrison still searching for a replacement.  Oddly enough none of the Rookies had any problems.

Arndt was out due to a drive shaft issue that carried over from Blenheim so the battle was between Paolini and Dresser.  Just look at the lap data, the race between first and second was incredible as was the knock-down, drag-out for third between Dimeler, Grenier and Adams.  "It was a fantastic Rookie race."  Said Arndt from the pits.  "I wish I was on the track with them, it looked fun."

It was another Ferrari v. McLaren showdown with Ferrari taking the upper hand as Thompson outperforms Romack, Stephenson and Hester.

The mob was happy to leave the oval circuit but won't be sad to see it again next season.  With a strong second place result this week Yutaka firms up his lead as the teams head to the final course, Goodwood.

Mike Arndt walked away this week winning the coveted annual watch giveaway.  It pays to show up even if you don't have a car on the track.

Current track record: Hester - 4.44s
Week 7  (12/15/ 2006)
Rookie Race:  Starting Grid, A Main
Pro Race:       Starting Grid, A Main, B Main
