![]() 1/5/2007 "The lady" is warming up her voice... It was a ghost town for qualifying, with some of the front runners out for various reasons we saw true talent emerge in both categories.
The Rookies had Dresser and Arndt fighting for the pole position with Tom putting in a great second heat to take the spot. All the while Grenier and Lara provided some fantastic side by side racing in the second heat. "She has reached this level of competitiveness quicker than expected. She will be a contender next season." Commented Pro teammate Michael Schaub on Grenier's performance. The Pro race was close between Hester and Yutaka and with Romack and Santamarina stuck in pit row the three McLarens made it fun to watch. Thompson put in an honest first heat but was sidelined by electrical issues and had to settle for the 5th spot on the A Main grid. Stephenson also showed well but succumbed to differential problems and withdrew from the second heat, leaving Hester, Schaub and Yutaka with an open track. Hester maintained his lead but lost both heats to Yutaka in the final laps. Not to be outdone Hester improved upon his teammate's track record by a scant 0.01s. The GT40 of Schaub was running better than usual but was pushed off the track by Hester as he came barreling through the start finish line midway through the heat. "I won't be surprised if he is penalized points for that move." Said Morrison. "Don't be mistaken, some people are loosing interest, but we are seeing some great racing as everyone has refined their driving skills." Said Lara Paolini. She couldn't be more right, because it was Grenier's Ford that jumped to a commanding lead at the A Main start only to stuff it into the wall on the back straight allowing the pack to pass her. This week Arndt continued to struggle with his rear hub and differential and that severely hampered his performance. Dresser was as smooth as can be. "He is ready for the Pro ranks." Said Thompson as he watched his friend take the checkered flag. Grenier took third and Paolini ended in 4th. "I was surprised not to see LP next to me the whole race. I know she was having some difficulties. All in all I am happy with today's 3rd place. Ford has been their to support me and this has been a very successful Rookie season for me and my crew." Grenier commented. The Pro race is almost becoming comical. Who will be the pole position, who will have the track record, and who will win? The answers to these question are never the same from week to week. The last couple of week's McLaren was dominating and Yutaka was lined up to deny Santamarina a repeat championship, and it looked as though he was going to secure it lead after an outstanding pole position qualifier. However, things fell apart for McLaren in the A Main. Stephenson and Yutaka ran in to trouble and could not find their groove. Hester was running well and kept Santamarina at bay until we broke the front suspension and limped home for second place. The B Main was overshadowed by Santamarina's need to win the bump up, but teammate Morrison wasn't going to give it to him. Neither was Lambo driver Bill Lucas who by far had the fastest car in the B Main. "Lambo must have pulled something together because Bill's car was very fast." Said Santamarina. With one more week left to go Yutaka is still holding on to his lead by one point but will need a win in his final race to keep the championship. "You better believe that the team will do everything we can to keep Yutaka in 1st. " Said teammate Stephenson. One will expect some blocking during the Mains and some blistering fast qualifying to keep every last point out of Santamarina's grasp. "It is our championship to loose." Said Hester. "Yutaka can take Aland and has had a great season, he deserves to win." All though there was some debate about the A Main results after lengthy review the race organizers have confirmed the results for the Pro A Main. They are official, Santamarina wins the race over Hester with Stephenson close behind and Schaub outperforming Yutaka. |
